Head of Data Science, Marks & Spencer

John Mildinhall leads the development of Artificial Intelligence applications at Marks &
Spencer. Focusing on building tools that make both M&S a better place to work, and M&S work
better, he is delivering a chatbot factory that can build hundreds of expert chatbots at speed, and
also delivers over a quarter of a million forecasts to the business each week. He has a Ph.D in
Cognitive Neuropsychology and a background in building advanced algorithmic systems for retail, transport, the justice system and the pharmaceutical industry. He led the redesign of control rooms for the National Grid energy balancing system, and the delivery of the UK’s strategy for open data in the bus industry which means that all UK bus timetables are now available to the public digitally.
