Lydia France

Research Data Scientist, Alan Turing Institute

Lydia is a Research Data Scientist at The Alan Turing Institute, working as part of the Research Engineering Group. She collaborates with researchers using AI and software tools to answer critical questions. She is currently part of the Turing Met Office project on predicting weather using AI, and has previously worked on projects within the Digital Economy, Living with Machines, and linguistics.

Her research interests are with working across multidisciplinary research, open science and reproducibility, and teaching data science best practices. Her background is in zoology and received her PhD from the University of Oxford in flight mechanics and aerodynamics of hawks. Lydia is also an improv comedian, performing in Oxford and the Edinburgh Fringe. She enjoys speaking to broad audiences about AI and data science, recently to audiences at the London Palladium Theatre and Royal Institution.
