Maryam Saeed, pursuing a PhD in Digital Society and Economy at Cardiff University, is passionate about countering online hate. With a rich background merging technology and human rights, she delves into understanding and mitigating hate narratives on social media. As a Research Lead at Pakistan’s Digital Rights Foundation, she has explored online harmful content targeting marginalised communities, and championed training programs on disinformation. Maryam also founded Pakistan’s first feminist audio-visual magazine, Digital 50.50. Her work highlights the urgency of addressing online hate in the Global South, emphasizing the need for safety and equality for all individuals, regardless of identity, in the digital realm.
