Professor of Digital Culture, University of Liverpool
I am Professor of Digital Culture in the Department of Communications and Media at
the University of Liverpool. I am the Joint Director of the Digital Media and Society Institute and Deputy Director of the Defence Data Research Centre (DDRC). I have undertaken research on the social, political and cultural impacts of digital systems and media for three decades. A major focus is on projects that address digital inclusion and exclusion issues, working with national and regional governments and the 3rd sector to develop policies and interventions. Recent projects have explored citizens’ data and digital literacy and we are just completing a project to explore a “Minimum Digital Living Standard” for UK households – both funded by the Nuffield Foundation. As part of the work of the DDRC we are exploring attitudes to data use and AI in the UK workforce.
What is Lorem Ipsum?
Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
