The Defence AI Research Centre (DARe) conducts cutting-edge research focussed on harnessing AI to protect the UK, its people and the places they inhabit, working closely with National Security and Defence partners on the challenges they face in an increasingly digital, connected, and uncertain world. The Alan Turing Institute

As simulations become more complex, the compute required poses a significant bottleneck. The Turing are developing a cross-domain toolkit, AutoEmulate, to automatically build AI-powered emulators for these simulations that reduce computation time from days or weeks to seconds. This allows us to dramatically accelerate research in areas where low latency is important, such as modelling cardiac patients’ hearts or environmental forecasting. In this demonstration you’ll see a simple example of how emulation can be used to approximate a simple real-world process.

Ministry of Justice

AI for Linked Data is a new unit within the government sitting within the Better Outcomes through Linked Data (BOLD) programme. This seeks to leverage recent advancements in data science to unlock currently underexplored and underutilised information from free text. Visitors to the stand can see how iterative development of prototypes has informed the design of front-end, victim-facing technology. Trial the Victim’s Code information tool to find answers to hypothetical questions such as “How can I apply for compensation if my trial hasn’t finished?” and “I have been injured; what are my options?”.

 When deep reinforcement learning technology is applied to the challenge of traffic management, it can make significant improvements in traffic throughput – and delay minimisation. This ground-breaking signal control system optimises traffic signal operation in real time, using live video from intersections.
