Dr Bettina Moltrecht is a mental health researcher based at the University College London (UCL) and the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families in the UK. Bettina combines a strong clinical, tech and research background in her work.

At the Centre for Longitudinal Studies Bettina leads the Harmony project. Harmony is a new data tool that uses Natural Language Processing to help researchers with the discovery and harmonisation of data from multiple study datasets. Bettina uses cohort and electronic health record data to investigate and model population mental health trends to identify new intervention and prevention targets. Bettina is co-founder of UCL’s Digital Mental Health Hub where she supports interdisciplinary research, including the relationship between mental ill-health and cybercrime victimisation or innovative ways evaluate digital interventions.

At Anna Freud (AF) Bettina leads on the development of a new online intervention for families living with parental mental illness and is co-investigator on the clinical randomised control trial “ERiC” to investigate the impact of mentalization-based treatment on emotion regulation and mental health. Bettina completed her PhD at the Evidence-based Practice Unit, a cross collaboration between UCL & AF, to investigate the role of emotion regulation in the development and treatment of mental health difficulties and developed a mental health app to support children’s emotion regulation abilities.
